If you cannot prove damages with reasonable certainty, you do not get them. So, if Rombola were unable to prove with reasonable certainty that he would have earned the lost profits, he would not be able to recover them.
In such a case, the court will award “nominal damages"‚ small amount of damages ($1, for example) to acknowledge that there was a breach that may have caused the plaintiff losses.
