If the mailbox rule applies, you (the offeree) can create a bargain between us on Friday by putting your acceptance in the mail, and I will not know whether we have a bargain until I receive the letter.
This would be a very odd result. When I say "Here is my offer; it is open until Friday," I want to know by Friday whether or not we have a contract.
