Drennan, a general contractor, submitted a bid (an offer to perform work at certain price) on a school construction project. In calculating the amount of the bid, Drennan used a bid for paving work submitted by the sub-contractor, Star Paving.
Drennan was awarded the construction contract. The next day Drennan learned that Star Paving had made an error in its bid, which was much too low.
Star Paving said it would not perform the work at that price. Drennan insisted it do so, but Star Paving claimed that, in announcing that it would not perform the work at the bid price, it had revoked its offer (the bid to do the work) prior to Drennan's accepting it.
The following questions lead to the conclusion that Star Paving's offer was irrevocable.
