According to the detriment theory, there is consideration for Aunt Tillie's promise because Charley incurred a "detriment" in exchange for the promise. There would not be consideration under the bargain theory because Aunt Tillie did not give her promise to get Charley's promise in return; she was just trying to be nice to Charley by giving him the money. The detriment theory, however, does not look at what the promisor was trying to achieve.
