Zacharias did not give his promise in order to get the penny, so the very first question in the flow chart gets a "no" answer.
The Schnell v. Nell court. It says "the consideration of one cent is, plainly, in this case, merely nominal, and intended to be so." The court's point is that the parties were just pretending to fulfill the requirement of consideration by exchanging the penny. The "in order to" language in "the promisor makes a promise in order to get a promise or performance in return" was not really fulfilled.
Zacharias's promise is really a one-way exchange, just like Aunt Tillie's promise to Charley.
